Reading LINKS Lessons
The LINKS project has developed a program of 16 videos of elementary school teachers demonstrating reading components and strategies. The focus of the lessons is on teaching K-3, but several lessons demonstrate teaching upper elementary students. An additional two lessons are provided which describe school and district programs.
This video clip features Cathy Collins Block demonstrating Buddy Beside Me. This activity is intended for paired reading, and focuses on students improving their comprehension by using summarizing, questioning and predicting. The clip is approximately 14 minutes long.

Strategies for Addressing Comprehension Difficulties
There are numerous reasons that learners may experience difficulty with reading comprehension. In this 60-minute presentation, Dr. Duke outlines some of the potential causes and highlights research in each area. She then goes on to describe instructional strategies that may prevent or address comprehension difficulties, providing both the research base for each and suggestions for implementation. Nell Duke is an associate professor and co-director of the Literacy Achievement Research Center at Michigan State University, East Lansing, USA.
