 Instructional Shifts

Common Core State Standards are integrated with New York State's Race to the Top (RTTT) program.  RTTT is intended to equip students with 21st century skills such as critical thinking and problem solving, communication, collaboration and creativity, and innovation.

To that end, changes in how teachers teach are needed to help students think more analytically and gain a deeper understanding  of the material.  These changes have been clearly defined as a set of twelve (12) Instructional Shifts: six (6) for English Language Arts and (6) for Mathematics.
